Health Testing & Guarantee

Why Health Testing Matters

Mini Goldendoodles are a hybrid of Golden Retrievers and Miniature Poodles — two breeds that, individually, carry a number of inheritable conditions. Done right, hybrid breeding can reduce the risk of those conditions showing up in puppies. Done carelessly, it can pass them on. The difference is genetic testing.

Every adult dog in our breeding program is tested through Embark Veterinary — the gold standard in canine genetic screening. We don’t breed any dog that hasn’t been cleared for the conditions known to affect their lineage.

What Embark Tests For

Embark screens for over 250 genetic health conditions. The ones most relevant to Goldendoodle lines include:

  • Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA-prcd) — a leading cause of inherited blindness in Poodles
  • Degenerative Myelopathy (DM) — a progressive spinal disease
  • Von Willebrand’s Disease (vWD) — a blood-clotting disorder
  • Ichthyosis — a Golden Retriever skin condition
  • Neonatal Encephalopathy — affects Poodle puppies
  • Exercise-Induced Collapse (EIC)
  • Multidrug Resistance (MDR1) — affects medication tolerance

Test results for both parents are available on request. We’re happy to walk you through them.

Our 2-Year Health Guarantee

Every Michigan Doodles puppy comes with a written 2-year health guarantee covering genetic and congenital defects. In the rare event a covered condition appears, we’ll work with you on a replacement puppy or refund — without requiring you to return the puppy you’ve already bonded with.

Your puppy also leaves us with:

  • Age-appropriate vaccinations administered by our vet
  • Multiple deworming treatments
  • A clean bill of health from a licensed veterinarian within 72 hours of pickup
  • A starter kit (food sample, blanket with the litter’s scent, care guide)

Lifelong Support

Health doesn’t end at pickup day. We stay in touch with our families for the life of every puppy we place. Got a question about food, training, or that weird thing your doodle is doing at 4am? Call us. We’ve seen it before.
